Kathy Carr: „Kommander’s Car”
On 20th June 1942, Polish boy scout Kazimierz Piechowski escaped from Auschwitz – Birkenau the notoriously cruel German concentration camp where 1.1 million innocent people from all faiths and backgrounds were murdered during WWII. Imprisoned for being a Polish boy scout by the Gestapo in October 1939, Kazik was transported to Auschwitz on the second Transport on June 20th 1940. Precisiely two years later Kazik’s escape which was in cooperation to the secret Polish resistance movement and it’s leader, the great war hero Witold Pilecki proved successful. Murdered and tortured by the Soviets after WWII IN 1948 for his activity in the Polish Home Army, Witold Pilecki had written his ‚Witold’s Report’ which was the first intelligence report on Auschwitz concentration camp, and enabled the Polish government-in-exile to convince the Allies that the Holocaust was taking place.
The important letter that had been drafted by pilecki and given to fellow escapee Stanslaw Jastar had to pass onto the Polish home Army in Warsaw was of vital importance and luckily this escape was a success.
Little is known in the West about the Eastern Front during WWII. Poland was the most brutally treated country during the whole war. Both German [1st Sept 1939] and Soviet occupation following the 17th September 1939 Soviet invasion of Poland left the country and it’s people imprisoned and as slaves to Hitler’s and Stalin’s brutal armies and forces. Stalin’s illegal white slave trade of 2 million Polish people who were Allies of Great Britain were transported to the Soviet caoncentration camp system – The Gulags – [approx 3000 camps] which were situated in remote places throughout the USSR were placed in loactios where tenperatures could soar below -50 degrees centigrade. The Polish slaves were welcomed with the motto ‚Nature is your Prison.’
I am proud to share this video with you which has given me the key to open up my own Polish heritage of which I am very proud of. I am so proud of Poland for fighting and for being Great Britain’s only Ally for the first two years of the WWII and Great Britain’s largest Allied Military Force after USA at the end of WWII.
