@Lechosław where is this information coming from, that germanics were slavs? i don´t buy into it. germanics came down from scandinavia and a lot of them penetrated slavic countries on the baltic seas, spreading their dna and their culture. but doesn´t even matter to me, because i see germanics, slavs and celtics as the same people with the same mother culture. the same aryan mother culture that brought sanscrit and horses to northern india, wrote the vedas and was the major dominating civilization until the cataclysm struck earth around 12.000 years ago, ended the ice age and rose sea level around 140 meters around the globe. there are sanscrit words similar to german as well, you know. we are all indo-aryans.

@weisthor0815 Not all Germanics were Slavs, but a majority of them. By Germanics I understand inhabitants of territories of ancient Germania. Now we need to know what ancient Rome considered borders of Germania. It bordered Danube/Dunaj on south, Rhine/Ryn on west, North Sea and Mare Suevicum on north, eastern borders were opened according to most chroniclers, only Ptolemei shown a border on Vistula. I am convinced Slavic people lived in Central and Western Europe in antiquity and notion they came in there in V or even VII century AD is the biggest lie of present time and many believe to this lie. Suevi were largest tribe of Germania and they were Slavic. i can prove that, but let's leave this for another post. I can go into details later and cite ancient modern authors to prove that as well as myriade of Slavic onomastic spread all around Germany from Rhine river to Odra and from north to south, why doe it need to offend German people, when this is pure truth? I know many scholars lost their life, many were subject to persecution for merely trying to show the truth. You seem a reasonable user though. Connection between Slavs and Brahmin is a side issue. Slavs have closer resemblance to Sanscrit than Teutonics, first they both belong to Satem branch, while Teutonics to centum, more important, Slavic vocabulary is decisevely closer to Sanscrit. @Gentleman Driver All Germanic tribes Suebei, Cherusci, Vandals, Goths, the Cimbri and Teutones , Anglo-Saxons, Lombards Burgundians, etc. were basically the same people and pretty Scandinavian- like genetically speaking. However, some Germanic tribes had Celtic influence, too. Besides, Southern Germany and Austria were the Ur-heimat of the Celts. That being said, Celts and Germanic people are pretty closely related. Anyway, modern day Poles don't have much to do with Scythians or Goths that ones lived in modern day Poland.

@weisthor0815 " Germanic", or I'd rather say "Teutonic" and Slavs are relatively close in genetic sense, but one did not come out of the other in genetic sense, R1a is a Slavic haplogrupe, it could only be Teutonic by way of changing the language. What is a dominant haplogrupe for Teutonics has never been resolved, it is a fact that most Germans in the western part carry R1b, eastern has high ratio of R1a, other haplogroups are quite widespread. Poland has 55% R1a1a, while Lusatian Sorbs 70-72 R1a1a, highest ration in Europe. Brahmin caste in India has 70% of R1a and they total 100 million people, they carried Sanscrit into India and they are real Arya people. Many Sanscrit word are strikingly close to Polish.
For ancient authors Germania was a geographic term, a wide territory inahabited by a number of tribes, not ethnic, although Tacitus made some comparison between Germanics /inhabitants od Germania/ and Sarmatians. As far as linguistic terms, there are only two words cited in Germania, name of a combat song "barditus" and a weapon "framee", that are Slavic words, I do not count names of tribes, these can be analyzed separately, but majority of Germania tribes were Slavic.

Although most of Germania was never conquered by the Romans, some of its western parts were incorporated into the Empire. Here the Romans brought all the haulmarks of their civilization, and left behind many impressive structures like bridges, baths, palaces and monuments. In this video we look at seven of these that are still standing in Germany.

Also interesting are the surviving Carolingian buildings like the cathedral in Aachen as they give a sense of how late antiquity merged into that period and because so few survived we tend to think there was this jump from Roman to Romanesque architecture that was more a slow change.

It's a shame how much WW2 destroyed European cities. Look at London, Berlin, Warsaw, and Amsterdam. Although a majority has been rebuilt a good chunk of what we see are replicas

It is so sad and yet huge.
All of what they believed and lived for, which allowed these great works to come into existence, is long gone, the memory lost.
And still we can touch it with our hands and gaze with our eyes, at least in part. A distant yet seemingly timeless past.

Sometimes, History feels like a cross between a dream and a nightmare while awake.

Edit: intense and beautiful video, much appreciated.

Thank you so much for this amazing and fascinating collection (and information) of existing ancient Roman structures. To me at least, it is more than infuriating that mankind is unable to restrain itself from destroying the finest ancient structures and their accompanying amenities of which the world will ever know, or will ever again know. Back in the era of Mussolini's Fascist Italy, (circa-1920~) there was an Italian civil servant (his name escapes me at the moment) who was an expert in ancient Roman and Greek engineering and architecture. This man, along with his associates, were tasked by Mussolini to reconstruct as many of the lost ancient Roman structures and to rebuild the ruins of others, as possible (worldwide); including the Roman Forum, (reasonably speaking). Influenced by archaeological discoveries of Pompeii and Herculaneum, Mussolini was inspired to rebuild and reestablish the Roman styles of 'Imperial Architecture'. Although WWII ended this endeavor, many newer style buildings were constructed; mainly Art Nouveau and Art Deco, although many which were inculcated with elements of ancient Roman architectural styles were also constructed. The truly magnificent and awe-inspiring 'Ara Pacis' Monument in Rome was completed; along with its accompanying 'Res Gestae Divi Augusti', 'The Achievements ('Deeds') of 'The Divine Augustus'; (written by Augustus Caesar himself) engraved upon its walls. Benito Mussolini is remembered for many infamous deeds, but, he did indeed achieve some positive building accomplishments within foreign; Italian-dominated areas as well, many of which were of varying styles with (then) modern as-well-as ancient Roman-influenced architectural styles, most of which remain standing to this very day in North-Africa, Greece and other nations/areas which were under temporary Fascist Italian influence. In Greece, for example the Fascist Italian designed and constructed 'Foro Italico', at the port of Mandraki, (link below) is just one of many examples of Italian overseas architectural efforts. Further, The awe-inspiring 'Palazzo della Civilta Italiana' being just one example within Italy itself; located within the 'EUR District' of Rome. The superbly elegant, yet imposing 'Square Colosseum', 'Colosseo Quadrato' of which, both inside and out, is a triumph of Italian-modernized ancient Roman architecture. It would have been a universal dream come true had he and his colleagues been able to have been successful in this assignment. (Ancient ruins are fascinating. However, rebuilding these structures makes much more sense than simply allowing them to decay further) I'd have loved to have been in his position, (barring WWII) as his private/personal dream was to have founded his own architectural firm with the idea of building ancient-style Roman homes, offices, market-places, etc., utilizing modern construction methods and, in the process, making Italy even more beautiful than it was already. The examples of these efforts just within Italy, let alone worldwide, are just too numerous to mention here. Thank's again for your efforts! - Link: https://www.greece-is.com/architecture-how-mussolini-and-the-italian-occupation-shaped-rhodes/

Thanks. I am living in Germany and it is a common missconception that German people at the time were united. This idea came only with nationalism in the 19th century, after the occupation from Napoleon.

@Gentleman Driver Not just that. 80-90% population of ancient Germania were Sueves/Suevi, incorrectly but purposedly refered to as Suebi, and they were all Slavs. The real ancient germanic people were slavic. German people live in delusion. Why is this fact so hard to swallow for them? I know this is a rethoric question.

Suebi are todays Swabians. At least their name survived somehow. Of course they mixed over the time with other German tribes.

@Lechosław germanics and slavs genetically speaking both share the r1a haplogroup so they are basically the same people, that much is true, but you could also say all slavs came from germanics, so were is the point? all r1 haplogroups (r1a and r1b for celtics) are brothers.

@Lechosław Stop talking nonsense. Germanic tribes and Slavic folks were distinct ethnic groups. The thing, is that Germanic tribes from Germany to Scandinavia were basically the same population, albeit separated by tribes and clans. The Goths for example, were Eastern Germanics who lived in modern day Poland, but they were not very similar to modern day Poles who are mostly descendants of Slavic people. Early Slavs were Ukrainian-like. Besides, Germanic tribes conquered and subjugated many Slavs. However, Eastern Germany had since medieval times Slavic influence too. Plus, today many Germans have Polish or Russian ancestry due to migration after WWII from former Eastern Prussia, etc.

Here the Romans brought all the haulmarks of their civilization, and left behind many impressive structures like bridges, baths, palaces and monuments. In this video we look at seven of these that are still standing in Germany.

Fascinating. Not too slow, not too fast, with an intelligent script, sympathetically conveyed . . .

Also interesting are the surviving Carolingian buildings like the cathedral in Aachen as they give a sense of how late antiquity merged into that period and because so few survived we tend to think there was this jump from Roman to Romanesque architecture that was more a slow change.

It’s a shame how much WW2 destroyed European cities.

Back in the era of Mussolini’s Fascist Italy, (circa-1920~) there was an Italian civil servant (his name escapes me at the moment) who was an expert in ancient Roman and Greek engineering and architecture. This man, along with his associates, were tasked by Mussolini to reconstruct as many of the lost ancient Roman structures and to rebuild the ruins of others, as possible (worldwide); including the Roman Forum, (reasonably speaking). Influenced by archaeological discoveries of Pompeii and Herculaneum, Mussolini was inspired to rebuild and reestablish the Roman styles of 'Imperial Architecture’. Although WWII ended this endeavor, many newer style buildings were constructed; mainly Art Nouveau and Art Deco, although many which were inculcated with elements of ancient Roman architectural styles were also constructed. The truly magnificent and awe-inspiring 'Ara Pacis’ Monument in Rome was completed; along with its accompanying 'Res Gestae Divi Augusti’, 'The Achievements (’Deeds’) of 'The Divine Augustus’; (written by Augustus Caesar himself) engraved upon its walls. In Greece, for example the Fascist Italian designed and constructed 'Foro Italico’, at the port of Mandraki, (link below) is just one of many examples of Italian overseas architectural efforts. Further, The awe-inspiring 'Palazzo della Civilta Italiana’ being just one example within Italy itself; located within the 'EUR District’ of Rome. The superbly elegant, yet imposing 'Square Colosseum’, 'Colosseo Quadrato’ of which, both inside and out, is a triumph of Italian-modernized ancient Roman architecture. It would have been a universal dream come true had he and his colleagues been able to have been successful in this assignment. (Ancient ruins are fascinating. However, rebuilding these structures makes much more sense than simply allowing them to decay further) I’d have loved to have been in his position, (barring WWII) as his private/personal dream was to have founded his own architectural firm with the idea of building ancient-style Roman homes, offices, market-places, etc., utilizing modern construction methods and, in the process, making Italy even more beautiful than it was already. The examples of these efforts just within Italy, let alone worldwide, are just too numerous to mention here. Thank’s again for your efforts! – Link: https://www.greece-is.com/architecture-how-mussolini-and-the-italian-occupation-shaped-rhodes/

Anyway, modern day Poles don’t have much to do with Scythians or Goths that ones lived in modern day Poland.
