W jakim języku się komunikowali?

WHO: We are a team of volunteers whose ancestors were Ukrainian Jews. Our mission is to research and preserve history of Jewish families, to promote knowledge of Jewish family roots, and to educate people about “Holocaust by Bullets” on territories of Former Soviet Union. We are working on this mission through the Tsal Kaplun Foundation ( https://www.tkfgen.org ), devoting our time and resources to this noble cause.
But today, we ask for your help. Our own resources just aren’t enough for the undertaking of this magnitude.

WHAT: The Tsal Kaplun Foundation has taken up an enormous task of building The Map of Holocaust Killing Sites in Ukraine to help viewers visualize data and obtain an informed perspective on the scope and scale of the tragedy.
Providing such historical perspective will be another tool in fighting the nativist forces that are encouraging the rise of anti-Semitic behavior in the modern world.

WHY: 1.5 million Jews were murdered in Ukraine during the Holocaust, but more than 2/3 of the victims’ names remain unknown. Most of them were killed in the woods, fields, and cemeteries close to their homes. Over 1,000 of such killing sites are documented, but hundreds more haven’t been identified yet. Unknown names, unidentified killing sites, forgotten people who perished without a chance to be remembered. “So long as we are being remembered, we remain alive.”

HOW: This project will develop a directory of documented killing sites in Ukraine and will incorporate information from existing listings. The links to the killing sites markers, sliding time frames, relevant documents, and information about existing monuments and signs will be displayed within the map. We will use the maps4us interface engine for the interactive visualization.
We hope this project will help individuals and organizations to do Holocaust research, build monuments at the unmarked killing sites, and locate new undocumented killing sites to preserve the memory of the 1.5 million Jews who perished in Ukraine.
